A brief summary of the AGM (Full details released soon)

The AGM of the Federation took place at Burntwood Rugby Club in Staffordshire at 11am on Sunday 15th January. A friendly gathering of Interested parties assembled, with several Clubs represented, including LCS, Triple F, Olney and Diesel Power. Apologies for absence were taken and the minutes of the 2016 AGM were read out and all matters arising from those minutes were discussed.

Reports from the various Officials were given, including the Secretarys Report, where Nicky Ducket was standing down and she was thanked for her work and efforts on behalf of the Federation during the previous 12 months. The Treasurers report included the presentation of the balance sheet which showed the Federation to be in a healthy position financially. All officers present and absent were thanked for their work.

The election of Officers followed. There were a few changes, and the new list for 2017 is as follows:

Chairman and Secretary: Shaun Jose

Vice Chairman: Henk Kruse

President: Dave Ling

Treasurer: Steve Gardner

Proposals put to the AGM were then thoroughly discussed.

Proposal 1 was agreed and passed and is active immediately for the 2017 season

1      There shall be no affiliation fee for Individual Members of the Federation

REASON:  There is no need for there to be any individual members. All Officers of the Federation and Officials (Active Judges and Timekeeper Recorders) Shall be accorded individual membership whilst in post and will be entitled to one vote. At the AGM. The Affiliated teams will remain entitled to three votes per team.

The cost of team Affiliation will be reduced to £25. All affiliated teams can then continue to pay £7.50 per weight at events whilst non-member teams pay £10. If a team enters and pays for all weights on the day they can enter ‘B’ teams at no further cost.

Two other proposals were discussed and it was agreed to continue accordingly for the next 12 months as a trial period:

Pulls will remain as ‘Best of Three’ unless there are 5 or more teams in a group, at that point it will go to ‘Best of two’ ends, as per TWIF International Rules.

The 3+3 Category will change to 450 kilos, in line with 600 kilos which is recognised at 8 a side competitions

Any 6 a side weight can be entered by a team of 8 females so long as they can make the weight class (except 3+3)

The Fixture list for 2017 was compiled, including a Memorial fixture in memory of Maurice Simons to be held on  Saturday 15th July at Midville in Lincolnshire, and overnight camping for the Saturday night will be available. (The Fixture List details will be released shortly)

The Date and Venue of the 2018 AGM was set (again details will be released shortly)

Proposals for the AGM

The AGM is set for Sunday 15th January at 11am. the Meeting will be hosted by LCS TOWC. at:

Burntwood Rugby Club, The Sportsway, Burntwood, Staffordshire WS7 3PH

Only 2 Proposals have been forwarded to the Secretary, both proposed

by Vice Chairman: Shaun Jose

2     Federation Pulls fall into line with International Rules: Pulling two ends only in straight competition or

Group Stages.  Best of Three pulls still comes into play in any Semi Final or Finals pulling.

REASON: Often teams are giving their all to win matches on the toss of the coin in a three ender, and

then going on to lose to teams that had an easier path through the group, especially when the

ground is very supportive to good and bad ends. This often leads to lengthening the competition

and spoiling the best pulling.

Great Pulling at National League 7 – Burntwood, Staffs.

National League 7 – Burntwood Rugby Club, hosted by LCS TOWC
At 10am there was a Council Meeting of the Federation where the business of the organisation was discussed and then the scales were made ready for the Weigh in of the teams at 11am.

Five teams took part in this Leg 7 of the National League: Triple F, Diesel Power, LCS, Olney A and Olney B. The pulling was good and hard all day, but when it was all over and the points throughout the event were tallied, the Overall Winners were Diesel Power, with LCS in Second place and Olney A team in 3rd. This will all make for an exciting National League Finals in September. Big thanks to Helen Jose who took care of recording duties and Nicky Duckett who was the Judge.

Report from Emma: It was a very good days pulling at Olneys event today, good work by all of the teams, especially on such a very hot day. Six teams were on the field, but once again shires and Triple F were low on numbers and joined together to make 5 teams competing, and as there were more Shires than Triple pullers they pulled all day as Shires. Judges in action were: Nicky Duckett and Chris Pollard, and Peter Lambert stepped in for a few ends as well. I (Emma) took care of the recording duties….results are as follows…..
