Appalling ground conditions on the show field did not deter or hamper the event in any way and the competition was started on time at 12 noon. Six teams contested the five weights: Hadleigh, LCS, Triple F, Royal Marines, Conningsby and Diesel Power. The event was sponsored in the medals by Dave Ling for which the Federation are very grateful. The judges were Steve Gardner and Dave Ling and the recorder was Karen Gardner. During the event Dave Ling conducted a children’s fun pull which saw him judging the pull with about 30 to 40 kids taking part and each one received a medal, again provided by Dave Ling. This year was the 150th Annual Show at Heckington…the longest running continual held show of its type in the Country!
A great day was had by all with some thrilling pulling. All teams pulled well, the medal winning results were as follows…..

The Maurice Simons Memorial Pull
Well done to all the pullers who turned out to make this event a great success…. current and ex pullers of the Federation including pullers who hadn’t touched a rope for years. It was great to have Sharon and members of Maurice’s family with us including Son Mark who was pulling on the rope… well done Mark. Big Thanks to Adam Baxter and Trevor from the Duke of Wellington for organising the event.
Thanks to Shaun for bringing an LCS team with a Triple F flavour thanks to the team known as the Cube, also the Duke of Wellington and Nomads teams which had many ex pullers pulling who came to support the day.
When it was all over the Winners were LCS with the Cube in Second and the Nomads and Duke of Wellington tied in joint third place.
Back at the pub following the raffle and a few drinks it was time for the presentation:
Adam presented the Winners Shield to LCS and Sharon presented the Maurice Simons Memorial Cup to the best placed local team which was the Cube from Sleaford.
An enjoyable afternoon was had by all and there is talk of trying to get ithe event to Spilsby Show for 2018!

A pleasant afternoon at Burntwood Rugby Club for Leg Three of the Federation National League. Sadly neither Olney, Triple F or Diesel Power were able to make the event and so in the absence of any other teams it was a good job LCS had a full squad and were just able to make three teams for each weight meaning that they at least got some good pulling.
Karen Gardner was the Recorder and Steve Gardner and his crutches was the Judge. After the pulling was over maximum points went to LCS A team with the B team as Runners up in each weight and team C a valiant third.
C/W Winners LCS. A. R/ up LCS B
It was the same result for the other three weight classes ( despite many three Enders) ….the 480 kilos the 450 kilos and the 525 kilos.

LCS B 8 points
LCS C 4 points
